Project_1: "What's Hot? What's Not?"
OVERVIEW:
2011 marked the first year of the Wildcard project. During week 1, Project 1 was introduced. The goal of the project was to give an insight and further understanding into today's generation. The project involved a pitch-back at the end of the week around the two group build-outs. There were no wrong answers, except for the ones we expected to hear. The point of this project was to allow these individuals to express themselves and their generation...

Project 1 : Men’s
We came to our first project as five Wildcards, each with our own ideas and unsure of our team dynamics. As we got to know each other during that first week, we realized we had plenty in common between us even though we kept our individual identities close to us. First and foremost, we all saw Portland as our backyard, our playground, our neighborhood – we printed out the skyline we all knew and loved and used it as the backdrop to the project. Our generation is all about connection: being social, being “plugged in”. We decided to string our shoes up over a powerline that we built ourselves to show how we all felt a personal connection to our peers. Dangling from the shoes are photographs and pictures from our lives, clothespinned to unused shoelaces, depicting the aspects of our lives we care about the most. At the base of the display are the objects we hold close to us, the things we feel help define us as individuals and as a generation. |
Project 1 : Women’s
A girl’s room is a symbol of expression. A Mecca of her style and a sanctuary to escape from it all. What you see here is a replica of our rooms, a combination of what makes us… well, girls! From the bed with fluffy pillows to the closet rack modeling our favorite items of clothing, to paraphernalia on the bed and the shelves above the bed holding an artifact dear to our hearts; it all reflects us and who we are in this generation. Our board has a silhouette of a girl, each section of her body is symbolic. The head holds our aspirations and dreams of what we want to do in our lives. The torso/chest area reflects our influences, the hips reflects the wants and needs and the feet area represents the procession. |
