Portland is an interesting place. Somewhat small, and relatively clean, it boasts a very unique demographic. Based on the show Portlandia, it’s evident that people tend to have their own style. Portland is home to many opinionated people who tend to have the mindset that large corporations are evil, that your coffee should be fair-trade, your vegetables locally-grown, and your music “underground”. But, not everyone is like the characters in the somewhat ridiculous TV portrayal of this great city. I think more than anything, Portlanders are somewhat liberated, more so than people from other cities or regions. Perhaps it’s the clean air, the accessible nearby Mt. Hood, or Oregon coast. Maybe it’s simply the seemingly liberal politics, or strong youth culture. Whatever it is, this city has helped shaped many of its habitants in to honest, creative, and quite distinctive people. I think these characteristics are very visible within the Nike Wildcard group, and I believe that these characteristics will give Nike insight in to a very specific generation and culture. As the test group to the Wildcard program, I am positive that the 10 of us will bring an important Portland-edge to our ideas, some of which can speak to an entire generation of youth.

I am a 19 year old Journalism major at the University of Oregon. I minor in French and Digital Arts, hoping that I will gain experience so that I can eventually work in a creative environment that involves design, photography, and working with people. I was born in Kansas, and have lived in Washington, London and Oregon. I like being around people who are comfortable in their skin, and unafraid to be themselves. More importantly, I like to hang out with funny people. I’m generally shy, but I am never awkward. I have always played sports, from my unsuccessful childhood soccer games, to my more relevant basketball games or cross country meets. I have also discovered that I love yoga, and getting my Vinyasa flow on! I am a supporter of Twitter, #hatersgonhate. I like music, and I have a pretty eclectic taste, ranging from Pixies to J Dilla to Fleetwood Mac to Dr. Dre to Mac Dre (and everything in between). I also like cats. I’m excited to be at Nike and I hope to be here at some point in the future.
